Moving Towards Naturalistic Interactions With Invisible Interfaces: Can “Digital Simplicity” Be Achieved?

چکیده

THREE CHALLENGES OF INVISIBLE INTERFACES Past user interface design leveraged real world metaphors and the naturalistic associations of these to create what was hoped to be more easy to use technologies (e.g., file folders, the desktop, the classic trash can, now subtly renamed the more environmentally friendly “recycle bin”). Pictorial representations (icons) were intended to facilitate understanding, learning, and the direct manipulation of objects of interest. These waves of prior innovation enabled technologies to become accessible to a broader community of users in ways that are now considered quite pervasive.

16th century Persian tiles in dialogue with 21st century digital tiles in the Sadrian universe

This article brings together tiles of 16th century Persian architecture and 21st century digital tiles of moving image to explore new potentials beyond the perceived image. As minimal parts of a bigger image, they both appear still and motionless. However, Persian Islamic philosopher, Mulla Sadrā Shirazi’s (1571-1640) theory of ‘substantial motion’ (al-harakat a...

Mega-Utilities Drive Invisible Technologies

A decade ago, while managing the Computer Science Laboratory at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, Mark Weiser envisioned a computer “so imbedded, so fitting, so natural, that we use it without even thinking about it” (“Creating the Invisible Interface,” Proc. 7th Ann. ACM Symp. User Interface Software and Technology, ACM Press, 1994, p. 1). Today, Weiser’s vision is coming to pass everywhere: ga...

Study of PKA binding sites in cAMP-signaling pathway using structural protein-protein interaction networks

Backgroud: Protein-protein interaction, plays a key role in signal transduction in signaling pathways. Different approaches are used for prediction of these interactions including experimental and computational approaches. In conventional node-edge protein-protein interaction networks, we can only see which proteins interact but ‘structural networks’ show us how these proteins inter...

A New Concept of Security Camera Monitoring with Privacy Protection by Masking Moving Objects

We present a novel framework for encoding images obtained by a security monitoring camera with protecting the privacy of moving objects in the images. We are motivated by the fact that although security monitoring cameras can deter crimes, they may infringe the privacy of those who and objects which are recorded by the cameras. Moving objects, whose privacy should be protected, in an input imag...
